    Royal Armouries are bringing to the Castle two of the finest pieces from their collection; the extraordinary ‘horned helmet’ given to King Henry VIII by the Holy Roman Emperor Maximillian I and Henry’s own ‘tonlet’ armour, made for him to wear at the tournament of the Field of the Cloth of Gold.
    It’s a return journey for the armour, as Henry stayed at the Castle on his way to France just before the event in 1520. There is an accompanying exhibition showing how Tudor armour was made, with wonderful craftsmanship and more examples of Henry’s armour.

    RSPB experts will be at the castle with fun ‘wild’ activities for children including puzzle solving, bird spotting with binoculars and telescopes, identification challenges and the opportunity to learn more about the wild birds on the estate and other wildlife.
    This activity is included with the price of admission. Meet outside the Falconry Office on the way to the maze. There is no need to pre-book this activity.

     Join us for a special behind the scenes tour of The Maiden’s Tower. See where Catherine of Aragon’s ladies in waiting were accommodated when the Tudor court was in residence. Find out why this tower has its name, learn about the roaring 1920s and what it was used for during World War II.

    Leeds Castle's flagship event for 2014, The Medieval Festival is a magnificent nine-day celebration of medieval life and combat, staged in the beautiful grounds of the 900-year-old Castle. Experience life as it was in the Middle Ages with a different programme of inspiring activities each day, ranging from the Royal Armouries’ Knight School, Mounted Skill-at-arms, Medieval Market and Living History Re-enactment Camps to a 15th-century-style Longbow Tournament. A thrilling Grand Tournament comprising authentic jousts and an unplanned Mêlée takes place on the weekend of 30th & 31st August.

At 7pm you will be invited into the Terrace Room to listen to an intriguing talk entitled ‘The Monstrous Regiment of Women: Tudor Queens and Commoners’. Alison is currently the best-selling female historian in the UK specialising in royalty, particularly queens, from the Medieval and Tudor periods.
    Following the talk, make your way into the Fairfax Hall with Alison to enjoy a wonderful summer feast. Choose from starters such as flame grilled asparagus, soft poached duck egg with bacon and onion crumb; move onto poached salmon, spring chicken or delicious caramelised onion tart.     The return to a glorious past will culminate in a thrilling Grand Tournament comprising authentic jousts and a real life unplanned Mêlée. Visitors will see the squires arm the knights in full plate armour, before witnessing four knightly warriors compete in this thrilling special ticketed event. Experience the colourful life of the Middle Ages with exciting have-a-go children’s activities, explore the sights and sounds of the Medieval Market and relive the past through living history encampments and combat displays.
    Tickets £24 per adult, £21 per concessions, £16 per child. Tiered seating is also available to purchase on the day of the event for £5 per seat (for all sessions).
    The Grand Tournament displays take place at 12pm (The Mêlée), 2pm (Arming the Knight) & 3pm (The Joust).

      The Demelza Run

    This year marks the 10th anniversary of this fundraising event for Demelza Hospice Care for Children. Returning to the castle, where the very first Demelza Run was held, participants of all ages are welcome. Suitable for novice runners taking on their first 5k to experienced runners who are looking for a more challenging 10k.
    In 2013 the Demelza Run raised an extraordinary £55,000 to help the charity continue its work caring for life-limited children and their families in Kent, East Sussex and South London.
    Entry costs £15 for adults, £5 for children, £35 for a family of four (2 adults & 2 children).

    In the morning workshop, learn classic techniques of willow basket making including scalloming, randing and trimming off properly while creating a small platter with different coloured willows. Discover the history of baskets and hear the latest news from the industry today including where to go next to acquire more skills.

    During the afternoon workshop, learn how to weave a good 3D form with randing, how to choose your materials for different parts of the work and how to finish neatly as you create a long bowl for fruit or bread. The workshop will also explore the associations that support the craft and some of the current basket making activities including traditional and sculptural techniques.

    A rare opportunity to improve your photography skills and capture the castle grounds and autumn flowers with your own equipment with professional guidance from Robert Canis.
    Robert will explain the various controls on your camera and discuss such things as composition, lighting, exposure and lens selection. There will be plenty of opportunities to stop and set up your shot for photographs in the grounds. The workshop is suitable for all ages and abilities and each walk lasts approximately three hours.

    Children will be thrilled and surprised by the Haunted Halloween Hunt and Spooky Quest for both younger and older age groups this October half term. The Halloween Hunt takes place around the woodland walk while the Spooky Quest will involve clues from spooky characters all around the Castle Estate. A fancy dress competition for the best blood curdling outfit takes place daily at 2pm near the Maze, while Spooky Stories with Raggedy Jack will entertain younger children in the Playground area throughout the day. A small additional charge applies to take part in the Quest.

    This year Leeds Castle Fireworks ‘Go Wild’ with music inspired by animals of the world. For two consecutive nights, the most incredible display of pyrotechnics will light up the sky over the Castle, synchronised with moving images and glorious music. Arrive early for the ‘Go Wild’ themed afternoon entertainment, enjoy hot food and drinks at a variety of stalls and be sure to join us by 5.30pm when the night sky goes wild.

    The magic of Christmas descends upon the entire Leeds Castle Estate this December, celebrating the traditions of the festive season with wonderful things to see and do for the whole family. See the Castle interiors transformed with a traditional gingerbread theme for Christmas with beautiful decorations and a central display to take your breath away.

    Explore the Christmas Market on the Cedar Lawn and discover an array of seasonal gifts, toys, decorations and delicious food and drink. Enjoy a warming hot chocolate or mulled wine and a ride on the carousel or Ferris wheel with spectacular views of the beautiful moated Castle. Look out for the real reindeer stabled at the market - until they are needed for more pressing matters on Christmas Eve.

    Children will love the Gingerbread Quest as they search through the Woodland Walk, over to the adventure playgrounds and back again to find all the gingerbread men.
