Abigail's Footsteps Sponsored Walk
Leeds Castle will be hosting Abigail's Footsteps Sponsored Walk. Come along with the whole family, suitable for all ages, two routes to choose from; 3 miles or 8 miles. With 500 acres of beautiful parkland and formal gardens, the walk takes in many of the stunning aspects of the grounds.
Abigail's Footsteps are a Kent based charity, launched in 2010 by parents Jo and David Ward following the death of their daughter Abigail Ward who was stillborn at 41 weeks. Abigail's Footsteps is focussed on improving the care given around stillbirth and neonatal bereavement. They provide care and support to families who have suffered a bereavement, as well as education for healthcare professionals directly involved with caring for bereaved parents. The fundraising pays for specialist midwifery training courses and the provision of Abi cooling Cots to maternity units, which allow parents to spend additional time with their baby. They work with hospitals to advise on the sensitive layout and creation of bereavements suites that provides parents privacy and locates them away from maternity wards, with example of their flagship bereavement suite 'Abigail's Place' at Medway Maritime Hospital. In 2019 they launched a specialist baby loss counselling programme which funds sessions to help bereaved families.
