A Royal Garden Celebration
Join us in a week that focuses on the unveiling of the new Princess Alexandra Gardens. Learn about landscape design and take special tours through newly planted areas of the gardens with the expert team at Leeds Castle.
‘The Princess Alexandra Gardens’ Unveiling: 25th June (afternoon)
See Patron of The Leeds Castle Foundation, HRH Princess Alexandra unveil a commemorative plaque to formally open ‘The Princess Alexandra Gardens’.
As part of an exciting ongoing project celebrating the Castle’s 900th anniversary year, the newly named Princess Alexandra Gardens have been separated into six diverse new areas including an Oriental Garden and Jungle Garden. Working with exterior landscape consultants, the gardens are being developed over the course of five years.
During the Royal visit, HRH Princess Alexandra will also oversee the laying of a time capsule on the Castle Island, to be opened in one hundred years’ time.
‘The 900 year garden: the south-east, the middle-east and the far-east’ Guided Walks: 24th June (2pm) & 25th June (11am)
Matt Jackson, who is leading the redesign of the gardens, will be giving a fascinating guided walk through the gardens and parkland. Join Matt as he points out the 900 year landscape history, bringing it to life as you walk the new gardens with him, to see what has been developed for the 21st Century and how the project will continue to shape the ancient landscape. Meet at the Main Entrance.
Woodland Walk: 24th June (11.30am) & 28th June (2pm)
An informative and historical Woodland Walk with one of the Grounds team. Meet at the Main Entrance.
Garden Talks: 26th, 27th & 28th June (11.30am)
Pick up some fantastic gardening tips from the Castle’s Head Gardener and his team with our fascinating gardening talks. Learn how to care for herbaceous perennials, grow successful bedding plants in pots and containers and get some tips on how to look after hardy exotics. Meet in the courtyard area near Castle View Restaurant.
Garden Bingo: 29th & 30th June
Younger visitors can join in the gardening fun with ‘Garden Bingo’ through the Leeds Castle gardens.
