Open Air Cinema with Full Orchestra: The Italian Job
Consistently voted one of the most popular British films of all time, The Italian Job features stellar performances from Michael Caine, Noel Coward, a superb supporting cast and, of course, three very special Minis.
Caine leads a motley crew of criminals on a mission to steal gold bullion from under the noses of the Italian mafia, masterminded by Noel Coward’s Mr Bridger from his prison cell.
Featuring some of the best-known lines in movie history, songs by Oscar-winners Quincy Jones and Don Black (“On Days Like These”; “Self-Preservation Society”), an epic car chase and the ultimate cliff-hanging ending, The Italian Job continues to delight audiences half a century after its release.
For the first time ever, audiences will enjoy the remastered HD version of The Italian Job with musicians playing the soundtrack live, in synch with the picture. And, exclusively for the Luna Cinema audience, we have a pre recorded introduction from the star of the film himself, Michael Caine.
Legendary producer and composer Quincy Jones wrote the music for the film, including the songs "On Days Like These" and "Self-Preservation Society" (with lyrics by Don Black). Written for big band and strings, Jones's score is both dramatic and hilarious, matching the tension and fun of the film perfectly. For the live performances, some of the finest jazz and session players in the UK will be playing in the orchestra.
It promises to be a hugely fun spectacle and a unique chance to experience this classic film on the big screen again nearly 50 years after its release.
