The Lord Chamberlain's Men return to the Castle with their own special brand of all male Shakespeare in the open air and in full Elizabethan costume with traditional music and dance. A real summer treat of a play that has mesmerised and moved audiences for over 400 years.
The Tempest is a comedy about a major act of betrayal, ill treatment, the development of magic arts and a plot of revenge. The play opens in the midst of a storm, as a ship containing the king of Naples and his party struggles to stay afloat. On land, Prospero and his daughter, Miranda, watch the storm envelop the ship. Prospero has created the storm with magic, and he explains that his enemies are on board the ship.
Gates open 6.30pm. Performance starts at 7.30pm.
