Originally the residence of the Leeds Castle gamekeeper, River Lodge is a spacious and characterful countryside retreat set in a secluded location within the estate. Surrounded by nature and overlooking the tranquil Weir Pond, it offers a peaceful escape for larger families and groups looking to enjoy time together in a truly unique setting.
Accommodating up to 12 guests, River Lodge is ideal for multi-generational family gatherings, celebrations, or two families holidaying together. The property comprises a five-bedroom main house sleeping up to ten guests, alongside a separate annex for two, providing both space and flexibility.
The Lodge enjoys a large private garden with outdoor seating, where guests can relax and take in the beautiful views across the water and surrounding wildlife. Inside, original period features sit comfortably alongside antiques and modern furnishings, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout. The traditional Aga, complemented by a conventional cooker, adds to the property’s homely charm and makes River Lodge a wonderful place to gather and unwind.
A cot and highchair are available on request, making the property particularly well suited to families travelling with young children.
More than just a stay
Your booking includes complimentary access to the Castle and its breathtaking grounds from 1 pm on your day of arrival and throughout your stay (subject to availability). Discover the historic Castle, beautifully landscaped gardens, maze and underground grotto, adventure play areas, Birds of Prey centre, and immersive multimedia tours – ideal for both relaxing escapes and memorable days out.
Housekeeping
For longer stays, housekeeping is provided every fourth day. Additional cleans can be arranged with the Accommodation team on request.
Check-in is from 3pm, with check-out at 10am. After departure, you’re welcome to continue exploring the grounds at your leisure.
River Lodge is self-catering, giving you the flexibility to enjoy meals your way, whether that’s a relaxed breakfast in your pyjamas or a cosy dinner around the table.

The Castle View Restaurant (On-site)
Castle View is our on-site restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily.
We recommend booking in advance, as it’s a popular spot with both guests and locals.
A traditional pub restaurant located on the A20, this is the closest pub to the accommodation and offers a classic pub menu and cosy atmosphere.
The George Inn (5-minute drive)
Nestled in Leeds Village, this welcoming country inn is perfect for a relaxed drink or a meal in a homely setting.
The Windmill, Hollingbourne (Few minutes’ drive)
Enjoy seasonal dishes and pub classics at this rustic gem. It’s a lovely spot with outdoor seating and a BBQ area when the weather’s kind.
The Potting Shed (Short drive)
Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner in a stylish setting with an open-plan kitchen and lovely outdoor dining space during the warmer months.
Washing machine, dishwasher, Freeview TV, DVD, Aga, microwave, cot, highchair. Egyptian cotton bedding is supplied with duvets on the beds. Gas fired central heating throughout. Welcome pack of Noble Isle toiletries and some basic supplies to start you off. Outside seating area. Please note that the weir and pond are securely fenced and gated. When staying at River Lodge a fishing permit is available. The weir is well stocked with carp, tench and pike – please consult the Environmental Agency website for details of open and closed fishing seasons. Some mobile phone networks receive poor signal quality within the house.
