Mounted photograph of the Front Hall showing the door (now removed) to the Library (now the Servants’ Hall) which was directly opposite the Front Door. Two torcheres of Rateau’s design stand either side. The door to the Schoolroom/Day Nursery (now the Library) is to the right. Numbered 30/18. Mount stamped A. A. Rateau, 17 Quai Conti, Paris VI, Tel. Danton 85 81. Photo stamped A. A. Rateau, 97 Bd. Berthier, Paris.
See P3/40/4/61 for torchere design drawing.
The photographs in series PH15 were formerly part of an album presented by Rateau to Olive Wilson Filmer on 10 May 1930 to mark the end of his work at Leeds Castle. Notes in the Leeds Castle archive catalogue indicate that there were originally two albums, which over time were broken up and the contents mixed up or dispersed.
