Gloriette from the north-east

Copy photograph of the exterior of the Gloriette from the north east. The temporary work sheds and railway bridge constructed across the moat can be seen in the centre. Alterations to the Gloriette ground floor windows and areas of new stone are clearly visible. Stamped A. A. Rateau, 17 Quai Conti, Paris VI, Tel. Danton 85 81.

The photographs in series PH5 are from a large, leather-bound album which appears to have been compiled by or for Lady Baillie c.1960. The album’s contents are wide-ranging, from views of the Castle and grounds to family weddings and christenings, and cover the period between the late 1920s to 1950s. It also includes copies of several original photographs by Rateau, some of which are in series PH15, while others are the only surviving copies in the collection.
