This trail invites families to engage with history in a playful way, encouraging teamwork and imaginative thinking. Will you uncover the truth behind the curious chaos?
About the secretaire
Originally belonging to Lady Baillie, renowned for her exceptional taste and passion for collecting, this secretaire’s significance is heightened as it harmonises with two existing commodes within the Castle.
Using money raised by National Lottery players, The National Lottery Heritage Fund supports projects that connect people and communities with the UK’s heritage. The acquisition of The Secretaire À Abattant has been made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Thanks to National Lottery players, this addition will allow us to enhance our storytelling about Lady Baillie and her approach to collecting. It will also help us in telling the story of how she managed her estate. The desk will serve as a focal point in her private writing room along with the two matching commodes.
