A curious start to the day at Leeds Castle…

Please note, this article was published as part of our 2026 April Fools’ Day celebrations and does not reflect real events, announcements, or plans relating to Leeds Castle.

This morning’s opening routine at Leeds Castle came with an unexpected twist…

Staff arrived to find the Chapel already unlocked, the lights gently glowing, and the curtains swaying – despite being securely closed the night before.

A quick CCTV check revealed something even stranger: a shadowy figure drifting near the alter, conversing with Queen Eleanor of Castile… then disappearing entirely.

The staff member shared: “Nothing seemed out of place at first glance – until you realise the doors are open, the lights are on, and you’re supposed to be the only one there. That’s when it gets interesting, but slightly unsettling. With Queen Eleanor back in residence – at least digitally – you do start to wonder how much she’s enjoying being home again making new ghostly friends so it seems.”

The AI Eleanor of Castile is part of Leeds Castle’s new world’s first exhibition exploring the life and legacy of this formidable medieval queen and first female owner of Leeds Castle.

Further updates will be provided should the figure make a return visit.
