ABOUT THE EMERGENCY STONEWORK project
The Emergency Stonework project at Leeds Castle is a vital conservation initiative aimed at addressing critical structural issues on the Castle’s South West and West elevations, caused from deterioration from age, weather, water ingress, and vegetation, which poses safety risks, causes closures, and can impacts visitor access.
Running from October 2025 to April 2026, this project not only ensures the preservation of Leeds Castle’s historic heritage but also complements a comprehensive audience development programme. This programme seeks to enhance public engagement by increasing awareness of the Castle’s charitable activities, conservation efforts, and its role for future generations.

Through a range of interpretive activities, community workshops, educational programs, and other features, the project aims to inspire visitors, foster greater understanding of heritage conservation, and create meaningful opportunities for community participation. The initiative underscores Leeds Castle’s commitment to heritage preservation while actively involving and educating audiences about its cultural and charitable significance.

We would like to thank our funders
This project would not have been possible without the following funders:

The Wolfson Foundation is an independent charity with a focus on research and education.
Its aim is to support civil society by investing in excellent projects in science, health, heritage, humanities and the arts.
Since it was established in 1955, some £1 billion (£2 billion in real terms) has been awarded to more than 14,000 projects throughout the UK, all on the basis of expert review.
A big thank you to The Wolfson Foundation for helping preserve Leeds Castle for future generations.

The Garfield Weston Foundation is a family-founded grant-maker that gives money to support a wide variety of charities across the UK.
The Foundation’s funding comes from an endowment of shares in the Weston family business. The Weston family have a consistent aim. The more successful the family businesses, the more money the Foundation can donate.
Since it was established it has donated over £1.5 billion, of which over half has been given away in the past ten years. In the most recent financial year the Foundation gave away over £100 million to nearly 1,800 charities across the UK.
We’re extremely thankful to the Garfield Weston Foundation for their support in preserving Leeds Castle for future generations.

We are grateful to the Vinehall Trust for their generous support of our 2025–26 Emergency Stonework Project.
